Indians Technology, IIT, Institutes are the emblem of engineering studies in India. Able to enter a IIT it is the dream of any aspiring to study engineering in India, and every year the college entrance examination performed more than one million people. But competition is terrible with only 10,000 (2%) students who pass the test, the IITs are among the schools with the lowest percentage of acceptance in the world.
The Virtual Classroom program was created in order to make available to institutions recently developed by IIT IIT mentors, using the network of high bandwidth and low latency NKN.
In recent years, the number of IIT increased from 5 to 18, due to a government policy that promotes growth through investment in higher education.
Virtual Classroom, an application of distance learning that takes place in the infrastructure of the National Knowledge Network India is one of the key technologies for further expansion of technical education. The Virtual Classroom program was created in order to make available to institutions recently developed by IIT IIT mentors, using the network of high bandwidth and low latency NKN.
This infrastructure allows access to quality education and research at the national level, connecting the most important institutions and students beyond state boundaries and districts. This is especially significant in a country like India, where access to education is limited by factors such as geography and lack of infrastructure facilities.
To carry out the Virtual Classroom project was necessary to build virtual classrooms HD video in 15 IIT. The aim of the project is to set up three virtual classrooms in each of the IIT, achieving as a result 45 virtual classrooms in total.
In addition to the Virtual Classroom project throughout the country, the National Enhanced with Technology (NPTEL) Apprenticeship Program offers distance education through an online web and video courses in engineering, science and humanities. NPTEL’s mission is to improve the quality of education in engineering in India providing free education programs online.
